My best friend died 24 years ago when we were young suddenly. I’ve never recovered completely. He was incredibly unique, charming, funny and confident. This song came on the radio shortly afterward while I was driving in the desert in Southern California. I remember crying silently just staring at the road out in front of me. My girlfriend at the time was quite shaken and kept asking me if I was ok. I wasn’t and I know now that I’ll never be. It’s been hard to listen to this song since but it seems to be getting easier almost a quarter century later. Miss you, E.

In 1992 I got a phone call from a beautiful lady named Annette, she looked like a mix of Hillary Swank & Julia Roberts. She had heard I was a hard worker, guy we had both dated gave her my number. She offered me a bartening job at her Jazz Club, "The Bottom Line, Jazz Blues & Dancing" a Basement Bar located in City Market Downtown Savannah Georgia. She and I were the only Bartenders and our positions while on duty, included cocktail waitressing and D J-ing in between the b Hiuse Band being on break. After I'd been there for a while on my time off, I heard this music on the radio, had not been the first time I had enjoyed Gerry Rafferty's music. I quickly made my way to the record store and was excited for my next shift to play this on cassette. I was still in my youth, 25 years old, had my whole life ahead of me. The good ole days😏 It goes really fast after twenty five years old.

When this first came out I was 16. I had Red Flu. Our old Victorian house had no heating upstairs, so lay on a make shift bed in front of the coal fire in the living room. I kept hearing this being played on our old peeling blue Roberts radio, from the kitchen. I was sweating and slightly "gone". That sax just filled me up. People say that 1970's England was a dark time. It wasn't for this teenager. We had far fewer material possessions but we had this kind of music and the BBC was amazing back then. The darkness, sadly, is now.

Lots of folks think Baker street was his best tune and it was a good one but I believe Get it right next time was his best one.

I was little when this played on the radio. Loved it then, love it now!

Saw him live after a number of years when he didn't tour. Incredible band of musicians with him and one of the humblest souls ever to grace a stage. Incredible night and a great memory of one of the best singer-song writers ever.
